Ingredients

  • 24 oz root beer (well chilled)
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • as needed whipped cream (optional)
  • 2-4 maraschino cherries (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1

Chill two tall glasses in the freezer for at least 5 minutes for best results.

  2. 2

Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream into each chilled glass.

  3. 3

Slowly pour 24 oz root beer (well chilled) over the ice cream, tilting the glass slightly to control the foam. Pour slowly to prevent overflow — the carbonation will cause the foam to rise quickly.

  4. 4

Top with whipped cream (optional) if desired, and garnish with maraschino cherries (optional garnish). Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon.
