Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
- 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 8 oz cremini or white button mushrooms, sliced
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
-
1
In a large bowl, combine 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20), 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs, 1 large egg, 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
-
2
Divide the mixture into 4 equal oval-shaped patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
-
3
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties until browned, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate.
-
4
Melt 2 tbsp unsalted butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add 1 thinly sliced yellow onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add 8 oz sliced cremini or white button mushrooms and cook until golden, about 5 minutes. Add 2 cloves minced garlic cloves and cook 1 minute more.
-
5
Sprinkle 2 tbsp all-purpose flour over the mushroom mixture and stir to coat. Cook 1 minute, then gradually whisk in 2 cups beef broth. Stir in 2 tbsp ketchup and 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard.
-
6
Return the patties to the skillet. Simmer covered over low heat until patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C), about 8 to 10 minutes, turning once.
-
7
Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning. Serve patties topped with mushroom gravy.
