Aish El Saraya
A classic Middle Eastern dessert featuring syrup soaked toasted bread layered with rich cream and pistachios.
Ingredients
- 8 white bread slices, toasted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp rose water
- 1 tbsp orange blossom water
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup shelled pistachios, chopped

Arrange 8 toasted white bread slices in a single layer at the bottom of an eight inch square baking dish.

Combine 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until dissolved and amber caramel forms.

Remove caramel syrup from heat and stir in 1 tsp fresh lemon juice, 1 tbsp rose water, and half of the 1 tbsp orange blossom water.

Pour hot caramel syrup evenly over 8 toasted white bread slices and allow it to soak completely.

Whisk 2 cups heavy whipping cream, 1 cup whole milk, 1/4 cup cornstarch, and remaining 1 tbsp orange blossom water in a saucepan over medium heat until thick and smooth.

Spread cream layer evenly over caramel bread and chill in refrigerator for at least two hours.

Garnish top with 1/4 cup chopped shelled pistachios before slicing and serving cold.
