Ingredients

  • 1 banana ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 shots espresso, freshly pulled
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk, steamed
  • as needed ice (for iced version)

Instructions

    In a small saucepan, combine 1 banana mashed ripe banana, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring and mashing the banana, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until syrupy and fragrant.

    Remove from heat, stir in 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and strain through a fine mesh sieve into a jar, pressing to extract the liquid; discard the solids. Let cool slightly.

    Brew 2 shots freshly pulled espresso.

    For a hot latte, steam 1 1/2 cups steamed whole milk until frothy; for an iced latte, fill a glass with as needed ice (for iced version) instead.

    Spoon the banana syrup into a mug or glass, pour in the espresso, then top with the steamed milk, or pour the milk over the ice for the iced version, and stir gently to combine.
