Flan Argentino
Silky smooth custard dessert with a caramel topping and glazed sauce. A classic Argentine sweetness perfect after a meal, served chilled.
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel)
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 5 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
-
1
Preheat oven to 350°F.
-
2
In a small saucepan, melt 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel) over medium heat (without stirring, but you can tilt the pan). When it turns golden amber, about 8 minutes, pour it carefully into a round flan mold or baking dish, coating the bottom and sides.
-
3
In a blender, combine 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 1 can evaporated milk, 5 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp salt.
-
4
Blend until smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds.
-
5
Carefully pour the custard mixture into the caramel-coated mold.
-
6
Place the flan mold into a larger roasting pan filled with hot water that comes halfway up the sides of the mold (water bath).
-
7
Bake for 50-60 minutes until the custard is set but still slightly jiggles in the center when gently shaken.
-
8
Remove from the water bath and let cool to room temperature.
-
9
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
-
10
To serve, run a thin knife around the edges and invert onto a serving platter so the caramel sauce drips down over the flan.
