A vibrant, warming wellness drink featuring fresh ginger, turmeric, and citrus. This anti-inflammatory tonic delivers a spicy-sweet flavor profile with immune-boosting properties.
Ingredients
- 4 inch fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
- 2 inch fresh turmeric root (or 1 tsp ground turmeric), peeled and sliced
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 tbsp raw honey (or maple syrup for vegan option)
- 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
- 4 cups filtered water
- 4 fresh mint leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
-
1
In a medium saucepan, combine 4 cups filtered water, 4 inch peeled and sliced fresh ginger root, and 2 inch peeled and sliced fresh turmeric root (or 1 tsp ground turmeric).
-
2
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes.
-
3
Remove from heat and let steep for an additional 5 minutes.
-
4
Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-safe pitcher, discarding the solids.
-
5
Add 1 juiced lemon juice, 2 tbsp raw honey (or maple syrup for vegan option), 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper, and pinch cayenne pepper (optional) (if using) to the hot liquid. Stir until honey is dissolved.
-
6
The black pepper helps with turmeric absorption, so it's recommended even if you don't want the spice.
-
7
Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed.
-
8
Serve warm, or refrigerate and serve chilled over ice.
-
9
Garnish with 4 fresh mint leaves (for garnish) leaves before serving.
