Red Wine Sangria
A Spanish party punch built on red wine soaked with fresh citrus and seasonal fruit, brightened with brandy and orange juice. Make it the night before for maximum flavor.
Ingredients
- 750ml dry red wine (Rioja or Garnacha)
- 4 oz brandy or cognac
- 8 oz fresh orange juice
- 2 oz simple syrup
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 apple, diced
- 8 oz sparkling water (optional, to serve)
- as needed ice cubes

In a large pitcher, combine 750ml dry red wine (Rioja or Garnacha), 4 oz brandy or cognac, 8 oz fresh orange juice, and 2 oz simple syrup.

Add 1 sliced orange, 1 sliced lemon, and 1 diced apple to the pitcher.

Stir well to combine, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.

Taste before serving and adjust sweetness with more simple syrup if desired.

Fill glasses with as needed ice cubes and ladle or pour the sangria over the ice.

Top each glass with a splash of 8 oz sparkling water (optional, to serve) for extra effervescence if desired.

Spoon some of the soaked fruit into each glass for garnish.
