Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers (jamaica)
  • 6 cups water (for brewing)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • as needed ice cubes (for serving)
  • 4 cups cold water (to dilute)

Instructions

  1. 1

Combine 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers (jamaica), 1 cinnamon stick, and 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a medium saucepan. Pour in 6 cups water (for brewing) and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

  2. 2

Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes until the liquid is deeply crimson and fragrant. Remove from heat and steep for 5 more minutes.

  3. 3

Strain the hibiscus brew through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing on the flowers to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids.

  4. 4

Stir in 2 tbsp fresh lime juice and 4 cups cold water (to dilute). Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.

  5. 5

Refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice cubes (for serving).
