Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick-cut bread, preferably day-old brioche or challah
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, for cooking
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup, for serving
  • 1 cup fresh berries, for serving
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. 1

In a shallow bowl, whisk together 4 large eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg, and 1/4 tsp salt until well combined.

  2. 2

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and let it melt.

  3. 3

Dip each slice of 8 slices preferably day-old brioche or challah thick-cut bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side.

  4. 4

Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  5. 5

Add more unsalted butter to the skillet as needed between batches.

  6. 6

Serve hot with 1/2 cup for serving maple syrup, 1 cup for serving fresh berries, and a dusting of 2 tbsp for dusting powdered sugar if desired.
