Langos
A beloved Hungarian fried bread that's crispy on the outside and pillowy within. Served hot with garlic and sour cream or fresh herbs. Pure comfort on a plate.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp instant active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for dough)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 tsp fresh dill, chopped, chopped

In a large bowl, combine 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, and 1/2 tsp instant active dry yeast.

Add 1 cup warm water, 1/4 cup sour cream, and 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for dough). Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Cover bowl with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 45-60 minutes until doubled.

On a floured surface, divide dough into 8-12 pieces. Gently shape each into a ball but do not knead further.

Heat 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying) in a deep pot to 350-375°F. Working in batches, stretch each dough ball and carefully place into hot oil.

Fry 2-3 minutes per side until puffed and deep golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Mix 4 minced garlic cloves with sour cream and 1 tsp chopped fresh dill, chopped. Rub warm fried bread with this mixture or serve on the side.
