Churros with Hot Chocolate
Crispy fried dough pastry sprinkled with sugar, served alongside a rich and thick dipping chocolate.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups vegetable oil
- 4 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 1.5 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp cornstarch

Combine 1 cup water, 2 tbsp unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp fine salt in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil.

Remove from heat, stir in 1 cup all-purpose flour until a smooth dough forms, and let cool for 5 minutes.

Heat 4 cups vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350 degrees F.

Whisk 1 tsp cornstarch into 1.5 cups whole milk in a small saucepan, add 4 oz chopped dark chocolate, and heat over medium while stirring until thick.

Pipe dough into hot oil, fry until golden brown, drain on paper towels, and toss in remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar before serving with hot chocolate.
