Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey (or bourbon)
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 maraschino cherry (or luxardo cherry for garnish)
  • 1 orange peel (optional garnish)
  • as needed ice cubes

Instructions

  1. 1

Fill a mixing glass with as needed ice cubes.

  2. 2

Add 2 oz rye whiskey (or bourbon), 1 oz sweet vermouth, and 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

Stir gently for about 30 seconds until well-chilled. Do not shake, as this would cloud the drink.

  4. 4

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or coupe.

  5. 5

Garnish with 1 maraschino cherry (or luxardo cherry for garnish) and an expressed 1 orange peel (optional garnish) if using.

  6. 6

For the orange peel garnish (optional): Hold the orange peel with the outer side facing the surface of the drink, and squeeze to express the oils over the cocktail. You can then drop it in or discard it, depending on preference.
