Classic Blondies
Dense, chewy bars made with brown sugar butter batter and plenty of chocolate chips — a fuss-free one-bowl dessert with deep caramel flavor and crispy edges.
Ingredients
- 2 cups packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted, cooled
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
-
1
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal.
-
2
In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup melted, cooled unsalted butter and 2 cups packed light brown sugar until smooth. Add 2 large eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp pure vanilla extract.
-
3
Add 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1 tsp salt to the bowl. Switch to a rubber spatula and fold until just combined — do not overmix. Fold in most of the 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, reserving a small handful for the top.
-
4
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Scatter the reserved semi-sweet chocolate chips over the top.
-
5
Bake for 24-28 minutes until the top is set and golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. The center should look barely set — they will firm up as they cool. Do not overbake.
-
6
Let cool completely in the pan on a wire rack, at least 1 hour. Lift out using the parchment overhang, cut into 16 bars, and serve.
