Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Wash and thoroughly dry 1 lb trimmed green beans. Trim the ends and cut any very long beans in half.

  2. 2

Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat until very hot. Add 2 tbsp vegetable oil and swirl to coat the surface.

  3. 3

Add the green beans to the hot oil and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until they start to shrivel slightly and develop some blistered spots.

  4. 4

Reduce heat to medium-high and add 4 minced garlic cloves. Stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

  5. 5

Add 1 tbsp soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free), 1 tsp toasted sesame oil, and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Toss well to coat the beans.

  6. 6

Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes until the beans are crisp-tender and the sauce has mostly been absorbed.

  7. 7

Season with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper to taste.

  8. 8

Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with 1 tsp for garnish sesame seeds before serving.
