Treacle Tart
A classic dessert featuring a buttery pastry crust filled with a sweet golden syrup and breadcrumb mixture scented with lemon zest.
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 7 tbsp unsalted butter, diced
- 1.5 cups golden syrup
- 1.5 cups fresh white breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp lemon zest, grated
- 2 tbsp lemon juice, squeezed
- 1/4 cup heavy cream

Pulse 1.5 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 tsp fine sea salt, and 7 tbsp diced unsalted butter in a food processor until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add cold water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms, then wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.

Roll dough out on a floured surface, press into a tart pan, and preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Warm 1.5 cups golden syrup gently in a saucepan over low heat until fluid, but do not boil.

Stir 1.5 cups fresh white breadcrumbs, 1 tsp grated lemon zest, 2 tbsp squeezed lemon juice, and 1/4 cup heavy cream into the warm syrup until fully combined.
