Casquitos de Guayaba
Tender guava shells simmered in a cinnamon sugar syrup until soft. Served chilled alongside rich cream cheese for a classic tropical dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ripe guavas, peeled
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 cups water
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 8 oz cream cheese, sliced

Halve the 2 lbs peeled ripe guavas and scoop out the inner seed cores using a spoon.

In a large saucepan, combine 3 cups water, 2 cups granulated sugar, 2 tbsp fresh lime juice, and 1 cinnamon stick over medium heat.

Stir until the sugar dissolves completely and bring to a simmer.

Add the 2 lbs peeled ripe guavas to the simmering syrup.

Simmer uncovered over low heat for 30 minutes until tender and syrup thickens.

Remove from heat and cool completely in syrup.

Serve chilled with 8 oz sliced cream cheese.
