Dulce de Platano
Caramelized sweet plantain slices with warm cinnamon and vanilla, a beloved Dominican dessert that is naturally sweet and comforting.
Ingredients
- 4 ripe plantains (yellow with black spots), peeled, sliced
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch salt
- 1/2 cup water

Peel 4 ripe plantains (yellow with black spots) by cutting off ends and slicing through skin lengthwise. Peel away skin, then slice plantains diagonally into 1/4-inch thick slices.

Melt 4 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Arrange ripe plantains (yellow with black spots) slices in a single layer in the skillet. Cook without stirring for 3-4 minutes until lightly golden on the bottom.

Flip slices carefully and cook 2-3 minutes on the other side.

In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, and pinch salt. Sprinkle mixture over ripe plantains (yellow with black spots).

Add 1/2 cup water to the skillet and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer 5-7 minutes until ripe plantains (yellow with black spots) are tender and sauce is syrupy.

Remove from heat and drizzle with 1/4 tsp vanilla extract. Stir gently to coat ripe plantains (yellow with black spots) with caramel sauce.
