Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz dark chocolate (70% cacao), finely chopped, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • pinch pinch of salt
  • as needed whipped cream (for topping)

Instructions

    In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, whisk together 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 tbsp granulated sugar, and pinch pinch of salt with a splash of whole milk to form a smooth paste.

    Gradually pour in the remaining 2 cups whole milk, whisking constantly. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the milk is hot but not boiling (about 5 minutes).

    Add 2 oz finely chopped dark chocolate (70% cacao), finely chopped and whisk until fully melted and incorporated.

    Stir in 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract and remove from heat.

    Pour into mugs and top with as needed whipped cream (for topping). Serve immediately.
