Emoliente
A comforting warm Peruvian herbal tonic made with toasted barley, flaxseed, dried herbs, and a splash of lime juice.
Ingredients
- 8 cups water
- 1/2 cup toasted barley
- 2 tbsp whole flaxseeds
- 2 tbsp dried horsetail
- 1 tbsp dried cat's claw bark
- 1 plantain peel, washed
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice, strained
- 3 tbsp brown sugar

Combine 8 cups water, 1/2 cup toasted barley, 2 tbsp whole flaxseeds, 2 tbsp dried horsetail, 1 tbsp dried cat's claw bark, and 1 washed plantain peel in a large pot over high heat.

Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes until viscous.

Strain the herbal liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a heatproof pitcher and discard the solids.

Stir in 2 tbsp strained fresh lime juice and 3 tbsp brown sugar until completely dissolved, then serve warm.
