Cajun Fried Okra
Crispy sliced okra soaked in buttermilk, dredged in seasoned cornmeal, and fried to golden perfection with a spicy kick.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh okra, sliced
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 2 cups vegetable oil

Pour 2 cups vegetable oil into a heavy skillet to a depth of 1/2 inch and heat to 365 degrees F.

Place 1 lb sliced fresh okra in a bowl and pour 1 cup buttermilk over it, soaking for 5 minutes.

In a shallow dish, whisk together 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal, 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, and 2 tsp Cajun seasoning.

Drain 1 lb sliced fresh okra and toss in the cornmeal mixture to coat thoroughly.

Fry 1 lb sliced fresh okra in batches in hot vegetable oil for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown.

Transfer fried 1 lb sliced fresh okra to a paper towel lined plate to drain before serving.
