Brik
Crispy pastry parcels filled with spiced meat or egg, fried until golden. A traditional Tunisian appetizer or main course with savory filling and delicate layers.
Ingredients
- 16 wonton wrappers
- 8 oz ground beef
- 1/2 onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp harissa paste
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil

In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil. Add 1/2 finely diced onion and cook until softened, about 2 minutes.

Add 2 cloves minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Crumble 8 oz ground beef into the skillet and brown, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5 minutes.

Stir in 1 tbsp harissa paste, 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool for 2 minutes.

Lay a 16 wonton wrappers on a flat surface. Place 1 tbsp of the filling in the center.

Beat 2 large eggs and brush a little onto the edges of the 16 wonton wrappers. Fold into a triangle and seal.

In a deep skillet, heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil to 350°F. Fry 16 wonton wrappers in batches for 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
