Kaya Toast
A popular Southeast Asian breakfast featuring thin, crispy toasted bread filled with fragrant coconut pandan jam and slices of cold butter. It is traditionally served alongside soft-boiled eggs seasoned with soy sauce and white pepper.
Ingredients
- 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
- 1/4 cup kaya pandan jam
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold, sliced
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tsp dark soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground white pepper

Bring a pot of water to a boil, then remove from heat and submerge 4 large eggs.

Cover pot tightly and let the eggs sit for 7 minutes to soft-boil.

Toast 8 slices crusts removed white sandwich bread in a dry skillet over medium-low heat until golden and crisp on both sides.

Spread 1/4 cup kaya pandan jam on half of the toast slices and layer 1/4 cup cold, sliced unsalted butter over the jam.

Top with remaining toast slices, cut diagonally, and serve with the soft eggs dressed with 2 tsp dark soy sauce and 1/4 tsp ground white pepper.
