Crispy fried Algerian pastry ribbons braided into intricate shapes, steeped in warm honey, and topped with toasted sesame seeds.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tbsp orange blossom water
- 1 tbsp white vinegar
- 4 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup honey, warmed
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted

In a large bowl, combine 4 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt.

Rub in 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Mix in 1 beaten egg, 2 tbsp orange blossom water, and 1 tbsp white vinegar, then knead lightly into a smooth, firm dough.

Roll out dough thinly, cut into rectangles, slice slits inside each piece, and braid into traditional woven shapes.

Heat 4 cups vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat to 350 degrees F and fry the pastries until golden brown.
