Buttermilk Pie
A classic Southern dessert with a sweet, tangy custard filling inside a flaky crust. It bakes to a golden finish with a delicate crinkly top.
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked pie crust
- 1.5 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350F and fit 1 unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.

In a large bowl, cream together 1.5 cups granulated sugar and 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter until light and fluffy.

Whisk in 3 tbsp all-purpose flour and 1/4 tsp salt until smooth.

Add 3 beaten eggs, 1 cup buttermilk, 1 tbsp lemon juice, and 1 tsp vanilla extract, whisking until completely combined.

Pour filling into 1 unbaked pie crust and dust top with 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg.

Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until center is nearly set and top is golden brown.
