Pastelitos de Guayaba
Crispy, golden puff pastry turnovers filled with sweet guava paste and baked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 8 oz guava paste, sliced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Unroll the 2 thawed puff pastry sheets onto a parchment surface and cut into 8 equal rectangles.

Arrange slices of 8 oz sliced guava paste over 4 of the pastry rectangles, leaving a small border.

Whisk the 1 beaten egg with 1 tbsp water in a small dish to create an egg wash.

Brush the borders with egg wash, place remaining pastry rectangles on top, and seal edges with a fork.

Brush top of pastries with egg wash, sprinkle with 2 tbsp granulated sugar, and slice small steam vents on top.

Bake for 20 to 22 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
