Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso
Classic pastry turnovers filled with sweet guava paste and rich cream cheese inside a flaky puff pastry crust. Baked until golden brown for a warm sweet and savory snack.
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 8 oz guava paste, sliced
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 400F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll out 2 thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles.

Place a slice of 8 oz sliced guava paste and a layer of 4 oz softened cream cheese onto half of the rectangles.

Whisk together 1 beaten egg and 1 tbsp water to create an egg wash, then brush the edges of the filled pastry rectangles.

Top with the remaining pastry rectangles, pressing the edges firmly with a fork to seal.

Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash and sprinkle with 2 tbsp granulated sugar.

Bake for 20 minutes until puffed and deep golden brown.
