Ingredients

  • 2 cups strong black tea, brewed
  • 4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tbsp evaporated milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. 1

Brew 2 cups brewed strong black tea in hot water for 3-4 minutes to make a strong concentration, then strain.

  2. 2

In a large pitcher or two tall glasses, combine 4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk, 4 tbsp evaporated milk, and 2 tbsp sugar.

  3. 3

Pour the hot black tea into the pitcher.

  4. 4

This is the signature step: pour the mixture from one vessel to another, pouring from a height of about 12 inches, to create a foamy, frothy texture. Repeat this 5-8 times, pouring from hand to hand or pitcher to pitcher.

  5. 5

Fill serving glasses with 1 cup ice cubes and pour the black tea mixture over the ice.

  6. 6

Stir well and serve immediately while foamy.

Questions

Can I make Teh Tarik dairy-free?

Yes. The dairy in this entry is 4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk, 4 tbsp evaporated milk. Swap the sweetened condensed milk for a plant-based version of the same product; the evaporated milk for a plant-based version of the same product. The richness shifts slightly, but the method does not change.

Can I halve or double Teh Tarik?

Yes. As written it serves 2. Every ingredient in this entry carries precomputed half and double quantities, and the app's batch dial rewrites them inside each step. To make a pitcher, multiply everything and stir over ice at the end.
