Pastel de Guayaba y Queso
Flaky puff pastry filled with sweet guava paste and rich cream cheese. Baked until puffed and golden brown for a warm sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 8 oz guava paste, sliced
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar, sifted

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut each sheet of 2 thawed puff pastry sheets into six equal rectangles.

Spread 8 oz softened cream cheese over six pastry rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges.

Top the cream cheese layer with slices of 8 oz sliced guava paste.

Whisk 1 beaten egg with 1 tbsp water in a small bowl to create an egg wash.

Cover with the remaining pastry rectangles and press the edges with a fork to seal tightly.

Brush the tops with the egg wash mixture.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Dust lightly with 2 tbsp sifted powdered sugar before serving warm.
