Pastelitos de Carne
Flaky puff pastry turnovers filled with a savory and sweet Cuban picadillo meat mixture. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or breakfast item.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef, ground
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/4 cup pitted green olives with pimentos, chopped
- 2 tbsp raisins
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten

Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Add 1 small diced yellow onion, 1/2 cup diced green bell pepper, and 2 minced garlic cloves, sautéing for 4 minutes until softened.

Add 1 lb ground lean ground beef to the skillet and cook for 6 minutes, breaking it apart, until cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F.

Stir in 2 tbsp tomato paste, 1/4 cup chopped pitted green olives with pimentos, 2 tbsp raisins, 1/2 tsp ground cumin, and 1/2 tsp dried oregano, then simmer for 5 minutes until liquid evaporates.

Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cut 2 thawed puff pastry sheets into rectangles and place a spoonful of filling onto one half of each rectangle.

Fold pastry over filling, seal edges with a fork, brush top with 1 beaten egg, and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
