Apfelstrudel
A classic pastry filled with spiced apples, raisins, and toasted breadcrumbs wrapped in thin, crispy layers.
Ingredients
- 6 Granny Smith apples, sliced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 8 phyllo dough sheets, thawed
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Toss 6 sliced Granny Smith apples with 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and 1/2 cup raisins in a large bowl.

Toast 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown.

Layer 8 thawed phyllo dough sheets on a clean towel, brushing each sheet with 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter.

Sprinkle 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs over the pastry, then top with the apple filling.

Roll pastry tightly over filling, place seam-side down on baking sheet, and brush top with remaining 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden, cool slightly, and dust with 2 tbsp powdered sugar.
