Mirliton Pie
A savory Cajun pie packed with tender mirliton squash, sauteed shrimp, aromatic trinity vegetables, and warm spices in a flaky crust.
Ingredients
- 3 mirliton squash, diced
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup yellow onion, diced
- 0.5 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 0.5 cup celery stalk, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb peeled raw shrimp, chopped
- 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 1 cup dried breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 deep dish pie crust

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Boil 3 diced mirliton squash in salted water for 25 minutes until tender, then drain and mash coarsely.

Melt 4 tbsp unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add 1 cup diced yellow onion, 0.5 cup diced green bell pepper, 0.5 cup diced celery stalk, and 3 minced garlic cloves, cooking for 6 minutes until soft.

Stir in 1 lb chopped peeled raw shrimp and 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning, cooking for 3 minutes until shrimp reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F and turn pink.

Remove skillet from heat, then fold in mashed mirliton squash, 1 cup dried breadcrumbs, and 1 beaten large egg until combined.

Pour mixture into 1 deep dish pie crust and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown and set.
