Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce
Crisp gai lan stalks and tender leaves blanched quickly and topped with a savory garlic oyster sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Chinese broccoli, trimmed
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water

Bring a large pot of water to a boil and stir in half of the 1 tbsp vegetable oil.

Add 1 lb trimmed Chinese broccoli stems first for 1 minute, then submerge the leaves and blanch for another minute until tender-crisp.

Drain the Chinese broccoli thoroughly and arrange neatly on a platter.

Heat the remaining vegetable oil in a small saucepan over medium heat and sauté 4 minced garlic cloves for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Whisk in 3 tbsp oyster sauce, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 tsp granulated sugar, and 1 tsp toasted sesame oil, simmering for 1 minute until warm and glossy.

Pour the garlic sauce over the blanched Chinese broccoli and serve immediately.
