Bistec a la Milanesa
Crispy breaded beef steak topped with savory tomato sauce, sliced ham, and melted mozzarella cheese. A classic Cuban comfort dish cooked in a skillet and finished under the broiler.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs top round beef steak, pounded thin
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup cracker meal
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 4 deli ham slices
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Season 2 lbs pounded thin top round beef steak with 4 minced garlic cloves, 2 tbsp lime juice, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp black pepper. Let marinate for 15 minutes.

Dip each piece of steak into 2 beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly with 1 cup cracker meal.

Heat 1/2 cup vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Fry steaks for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 145°F.

Transfer steaks to a baking sheet and top each piece with 1 cup tomato sauce, 4 deli ham slices, and 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese.
