Ingredients

  • 2 lbs white fish fillets, patted dry
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger, julienned
  • 4 stalks scallions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp calamansi juice
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil

Instructions

  1. 1

Set up a steamer basket in a large pot over boiling water.

  2. 2

Arrange 2 lbs patted dry white fish fillets on a heatproof plate that fits in the steamer, then top with half of the 2 tbsp julienned fresh ginger and half of the 4 stalks thinly sliced scallions.

  3. 3

Place the plate into the steamer basket, cover with a lid, and steam for 8 to 10 minutes until the fish reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees F.

  4. 4

Carefully remove the plate from the steamer and pour off any liquid accumulated on the plate.

  5. 5

Whisk together 3 tbsp soy sauce and 2 tbsp calamansi juice in a small bowl, then pour it over the cooked fish.

  6. 6

Scatter the remaining ginger and scallions over the top of the fish.

  7. 7

Heat 2 tbsp neutral oil and 2 tsp sesame oil in a small skillet until smoking hot, then carefully pour over the aromatics on the fish to sizzle and serve immediately.

Questions

Can I make Steamed Fish gluten-free?

Yes. The gluten in this entry is 3 tbsp soy sauce. Swap the soy-based sauce for tamari or coconut aminos. Everything else proceeds as written.

How long does Steamed Fish keep?

Refrigerate leftovers within two hours and eat them within two days (seafood turns fast). Reheat gently on the stovetop.

Can I halve or double Steamed Fish?

Yes. As written it serves 4. Every ingredient in this entry carries precomputed half and double quantities, and the app's batch dial rewrites them inside each step. When doubling on the stovetop, use your widest pan or work in two batches so the food sears instead of steaming.
